Plants and Shrubs

Planting around the wetland park is a multi year project that started in April 2018.  With the addition of the forest garden in 2020, we introduced many more culturally important shrubs and plants with guidance from Secwepemc Elders.

Bee Balm (Wild Bergamot)
Soapberry, or Soopolallie
Snowberry (Waxberry)
Thimbleberry
common juniper
Red Osier Dogwood
Tall Oregon Grape
Saskatoon Berry

The Traditional Knowledge of revered Elder Dr. Mary Thomas is shared by her daughter Bonnie Thomas in the creation of interpretive signs that identify native plants, trees and shrubs.  The signs have a scannable QR code that links to a webpage with detailed information on each plant.  Additional signs will showcase wetland ecology and the historical significance of this location.

We thank the Ancestors for the use of this land. We are guests in the unceded traditional territories of the Secwépemc Nation and the Syilx Okanagan Nation
